Montessori encompasses a philosophy by which children are allowed to develop naturally and fully, each at his or her own pace. Under the guidance of Montessori teachers, in a specially prepared environment and using carefully formulated materials, children are given the opportunity to learn in the best ways- by choice and by discovery. The dual qualities of independence and a love of learning are nurtured in a way that both competence and confidence result.
The Montessori Environment is divided into the following areas:
*Practical Life-skills of daily living create independence, order, coordination and concentration.
*Sensorial-exploring the world in color, size, shape, sound and touch: provides basis for math, language and music.
*Language-from spoken to written, hear and use precise vocabulary for all activites; experience sound and formation of letters, combines for words and sentances
*Mathematics-from concrete to abstract, child experiences the concept of "how many" by holding it in hand; materials increase in complexity.
*Cultural-Art and music, geography and science.
